Focus on what’s under your control

Some things are within our control while others are not

In street photography one of the big things for me has been to take a lesson from the Stoics and to concentrate on what’s under my control and forget about everything else

I’m in control of my camera settings, my attitude, my thoughts and feelings; everything else including the light, weather, the people etc. I have no control over. Often there’s going to be something that isn’t right or circumstances change so quickly that the moment has gone before I’m ready to take the shot; there’s nothing I can do about this so there’s no point in getting upset, angry or wasting time thinking about what I should have done

By keeping my focus on what’s under my control, being mindful and in the moment I’m finding that when the opportunity arises I’m far more likely to get the image that I want. It also makes the whole process of street photography much more enjoyable
